Rotterdams Terrific Terraces – Part 2: City Centre Edition
Whether you want to have lunch, go for a cold beer or just enjoy the sunshine and some people watching, there’s something for everyone in the city. We’ve selected a handful of terraces that are within walking distance from Rotterdam Central, each with their own unique vibe.
One of the most well-known places in the city and a must visit. A traditional bar right in the city center on the corner of the Lijnbaan and Kruiskade. A perfect place to take a break from shopping for those not wanting to stray too far. Their menu isn’t as classical as you might expect, serving different kinds of street foods from various continents. From lunch to just a bite to compliment your drink, Beurs is the place.
Westerpaviljoen is a classic among the city residents. With its classical brown interior you can enjoy a drink or a steak there all your long. Their terrace is located on a street corner in the bubbling city center on the intersection of the Nieuwe Binnenweg and Mathenesserlaan.
In a relatively peaceful place, only a little way away from the busy Witte de Withstraat you can find the museum park. Situated in the museum Het Nieuwe Instituut, this little café is freely accessible and has a beautiful terrace by the water.
When you’re ready for something more active, go check out the museum itself or have a stroll through the museum park with its many sculptures and artworks.
If you end your journey at Witte de Withstraat, there is plenty too choose from. So much, it deserves a whole other article. But an all-time favorite for many Rotterdammers is still NRC. The décor inside is casual and nice, but outside it’s bright as well. If you approach from the side of Wunderbar (their neighboring bar that serves Bratwurst) you enter underneath a wooden gate. It’s a circus like feel.
There’s plenty more to choose from of course, but these are some of our favorites in the city center. So what are you waiting for? Go out and enjoy the sunshine… while it lasts!
