Rotterdams Terrific Terraces – Part 1: Schieblock Edition
Technically speaking summer has been upon us for a few weeks now, but as we all know, the Dutch weather is anything if not unpredictable. The coming days promise a lot of sunny hours, so this your chance to venture out and visit some of Rotterdam’s finest terraces.
We’ve selected a handful of terraces that are within walking distance from Rotterdam Central, each with their own unique vibe.
The Schieblock isn’t even a five minute walk from Central Station and it features some of Rotterdams, and the country’s, up and coming creative entrepreneurs, but on top of that you can find a few good places to go and have a drink.
The first one we would like to feature is Biergarten. A bar with outside area only, their motto is to keep things simple. Sun, drinks, food, music and nice people. They offer beers and food from the grill, vegetarian options are available, such as their mac and cheese burger.
A relatively new restaurant, aptly named for their location. Weena stands out for their décor and they have managed to bring the same style to their terrace. Wooden tables and beautiful light bulb strings that are turned on at night. And for those looking to lay back, there are some bean bags lying around as well.
Prefer to get a little closer to the sun when catching those rays? Op het Dak is situated on the roof of the Schieblock. Their terrace overlooks not only the city but Rotterdams own rooftop garden where there they grow organic vegetables, herbs and edible flowers. Here you can order breakfast, lunch or coffee with a snack. They aren’t usually open on evenings but for the summer they have some special events planned such as yoga on the rooftop with a nice salad bowl afterwards.
Go out and enjoy those lovely rays of sun, and come back here next week to explore the city’s finest terraces with us in part II!
