Pebbles Kitty Cat Cafe: the purrfect hangout
The world’s first cat café opened almost twenty years ago in Taiwan, but since a year Rotterdam has its very own hangout for cat lovers in the Hoogstraat. For those wondering what a cat café is exactly, it’s pretty much what the name suggests: a place to get a cup of coffee or tea and to hang out with cats.
The vibe at Pebbles is relaxed and homely. Visitors come in small groups or alone and enjoy the company of the cats whilst having a chat, reading, working or playing a game of Exploding Kittens. It turns out the cats are also an excellent conversation starter with the other visitors, because you’ll know you’ll have at least one thing in common.
There’s six cats running and climbing around at Pebbles, all of which have been adopted from a shelter. Most of them are friendly enough but some of them take little to no notice of the visitors in their home. They are cats after all, and at Pebbles it’s all about the cats. They even have their own room – no humans allowed, where they can retire from all the attention and get some much-deserved rest. Even though a visit to Pebbles is no guarantee for getting your fill of cat cuddles, it certainly makes for a relaxed afternoon and is a must visit for every cat lover in the city.
Pebbles is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 12.00 to 18.00 and Sunday from 12.00 to 17.00. It’s possible to make reservations through their website but there is also room for spontaneous visits. They charge a 3,50 entrance fee for an unlimited time of cat company.
