Kingsday 2016 in Rotterdam
Every year, we celebrate the birthday of our king with a nation-wide party. This year, although the atmosphere was lukewarm and the weather didn’t help either, people still tried to make something happen. The city wasn’t haunted.
One thing is for sure, the Dutch weather is bipolar. We had four seasons in one single hour. I was amazed.
On Kingsday, every citizen can sell their second-hand stuff – only on this very special day. Sell your belongings, sell the things that make you feel tired. A shoe and a hat. A thing that traveled with you and became part of your existential quest, a search for identity.
Youth playing brassband.
Peruvian musician, blowing his flute with all the passion that his lungs possessed.
A local band was busy as well. Today was a cultural experience. There was a latin-jazzy vibe over here. It wasn’t spectacular, but not too bad either. Well, that’s my experience on Kingsday, till next time.
