What is Rotterdam to you?
All Rotterdammers have a voice in international feature film Rotterdam, I Love You
Today, we launched our new campaign “Rotterdam is…”. The campaign invites all Rotterdammers to give their answer to the question: “What is Rotterdam to you?” The stories, photos and videos that Rotterdammers will send us as an answer to that question, will be used as a source of inspiration for the directors and screenwriters of the international feature film Rotterdam, I Love You that we will be shooting next year. The aim of the campaign is to present Rotterdam in an honest, authentic way in the film.
Your input is needed
The campaign “Rotterdam is…” is designed to collect everything about Rotterdam that is unique, striking, inspiring and beautiful. In the coming months Rotterdammers (and lovers of Rotterdam) can submit their view on Rotterdam via this website, on social media with the hashtag #rotterdamis, during events and festivals, and by recording a video in the headquarters of Rotterdam, I Love You.
Their stories and impressions are then combined and presented to the eleven film teams, from the Netherlands and abroad, who together will make the film Rotterdam, I Love You next year, will make. The film, part of the acclaimed ‘Cities of Love’ film series, will be shown in cinemas worldwide. It is the first and only film in the series that uses direct input from the city to inspire th filmmakers.
Showing the raw beauty of Rotterdam
The campaign “Rotterdam is…” is essential in the making of the film. Joeri Pruys, producer: “We don’t want the film to show a polished version of the city. Our aim is to show the raw beauty of Rotterdam.” Matt Jaems, producer, agrees: “We want to work together with all Rotterdammers to tell the story of Rotterdam, so that the international audience of the film will get an honest and surprising image of this city.”
Rotterdam, I Love You is part of the global ‘Cities of Love’ film series. Previous entries in the series are famous and successful films like Paris, je t’aime (2006) and New York, I Love You (2009). Like the previous entries, Rotterdam, I Love You is made by various renowned directors and actors, both local and from abroad, and exceptional young talents. Earlier directors in the ‘Cities of Love’ series include the Coen Brothers, Brett Ratner, Guillermo Arriaga and Alexander Payne. In Rotterdam, I Love You directors of this caliber will also make their appearance, alongside young talents. Recently Rotterdam Shariff Nasr has been announced as the first of the eleven directors. The film is produced by Matt Jaems and Joeri Pruys in collaboration with September Film Productions, producer Jeroen Beker and Czar Films. Rotterdam, I Love You will be shot in the summer of 2017 and September Film Distribution will release the film in cinemas in 2018.
